About the Author

Laura Parker Roerden is a teacher, writer, and curriculum developer. As the director of publications for Educators for Social Responsibility, she has worked for several years developing materials that help teachers empower their students. She has consulted and written on many different topics including environmental education and the use of the internet in education.

Laura holds a masters of education degree from Harvard University in teaching and curriculum. She has taught children grades 4 through 12 in settings as varied as traditional classrooms, the deck of a ship, and on SCUBA, a hundred feet beneath the sea. Laura is author of The Harbor Speaks, an environmental curriculum from Ocean Frontiers, a contributing author with William J. Kreidler of Early Childhood Adventures in Peacemaking, and editor of several highly acclaimed education resources including William J. Kreidler's Conflict Resolution in the Middle School, School-Age Adventures in Peacemaking, Diane Levin's Teaching Young Children in Violent Times, and Sarah Pirtle's Linking Up: Building a Peaceable Classroom using Music and Movement.
